Open Position: Communications Intern

The Scholars Strategy Network (SSN) is looking for a paid, part-time Communications Intern. The intern will support staff in achieving the organization’s mission, bringing research and evidence into the public debate to improve policy and strengthen democracy. This position requires a commitment of 13 to 15 hours a week. In-person training will be required for the first two months; after that, some remote work may be possible.

The start date for this position is May 1 or June 1, depending on availability. Preference will be given to applicants who can commit to this position through the summer and fall semester. This position pays $15 per hour. SSN offices are located in 1035 Cambridge St, Suite 14B, Cambridge MA 02141.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Assist in monitoring and sharing content across SSN’s social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) and on the SSN website

  • Support the production of the SSN podcast, No Jargon, including: preparing interview questions and show notes, identifying potential guests, and promoting new episodes

  • Build press lists and compile outreach materials for reporters on a variety of topics

  • Support staff and chapters in the creation of SSN newsletter content and local media materials

  • Support the rest of the SSN team as needed by proof-reading documents, compiling data, assisting in event planning, and taking on new tasks

  • Make recommendations for how to increase engagement on social media accounts by researching who to follow and strategic ways to interact

  • Monitor social media and website analytics, in support of Communications Team’s quarterly metrics and goals

  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Graduate student, advanced undergraduate student, or equivalent experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proofreading ability

  • Experience monitoring and managing professional social media accounts

  • Familiarity with email marketing or newsletter production preferred, including experience with Cision, Sprout, or Mailchimp

  • Design, branding, or marketing experience preferred, preferably with Adobe Creative Suite or Canva

  • Commitment to SSN’s mission

  • Professional, positive, and trustworthy

  • Ability to learn new skills

  • Flexibility to move among tasks

  • Eagerness to learn about the nonprofit sector and political process
