The Scholars Strategy Network connects journalists, policymakers, and civic leaders with America’s top researchers to improve policy and strengthen democracy.
Our History
Our Mission
In 2011, the Scholars Strategy Network was created to channel the expertise of America’s top scholars to help solve the nation’s toughest policy problems. Founded by Theda Skocpol, Victor S. Thomas Professor of Government and Sociology at Harvard University, SSN draws on a tried and true principle of American democracy: a voluntary, federated organization that offers members meaningful benefits and transformational relationships can improve policy debates at every level of government. SSN began as a three-person organization working out of Skocpol’s office on the Harvard campus and is now led by a growing national team with a membership of approximately 1,400 scholars in 270 universities located in 48 states.
