About Catalina
Dr. Onís’s research and teaching focus on Puerto Rican studies and environmental, climate, and energy justice communication studies. Onís authored Energy Islands: Metaphors of Power, Extractivism, and Justice in Puerto Rico (University of California Press, 2021). She also coauthored two bilingual children's books about environmental and climate justice (Editora Educación Emergente, 2021, 2023). Onís has been a long-time collaborator with grassroots group the Iniciativa de Ecodesarrollo de Bahía de Jobos, in southeastern Puerto Rico.
