About Deanna
Giraldi’s community-led, qualitative research centers the biopsychosocial impacts of gun violence exposure on survivors, their families, and communities in the United States. Prior to her doctoral studies, Giraldi worked with the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine in Washington D.C. to address health disparities, producing consensus reports for the U.S. Congress. She also worked with Everytown for Gun Safety as a research and policy advisor, focusing on interpersonal violence and trauma.

Examines the impacts of firearm violence in the U.S. over the past 25 years, exploring the short-term, long-term, and cumulative effects across physical, psychological, social, and economic domains. Findings show that most research focuses on short-term psychological effects on direct survivors and witnesses, while long-term and broader community impacts are under-studied.
