Tyra Maya Gravesande

Gravesande's research focuses on the sacrality of the black female body, mechanisms in which food insecurity and food deserts impact perinatal health outcomes for Black birthing people, and the phenomenology of discrimination experienced by black women. Additionally, Gravesande's work finds interest in interrogating portrayals of violence and black encounters with medicine. She is interested in the examination of how black people, especially black women, negotiate their care. Reflecting and connecting the paths where violence and black encounters meet at the site of medical treatment. Overall, Gravesande's work examines portrayals of black people’s suspicion as epistemological sites.
