Morgan has a background in basic science research – before joining SSN, she earned her Ph.D. from Michigan State University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship where her work largely sought to uncover the biological mechanisms that drive reproductive health issues. In particular, her research explored how infection, circadian rhythm disruption from shift work, and immune signaling act collectively to impact the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes, especially preterm birth.
In addition to research, Morgan’s passion for connecting reserach to the public domain inspired her to found the Michigan chapter of Science on the Ballot through the National Science Policy Network, which created opportunities for graduate students to engage in science policy and communication by partnering with subject-matter experts to develop a science policy questionnaire for Michigan political candidates preceding the 2024 election.
Morgan lives in Lansing, Michigan, with her husband, Derek, their daughter, Helena, and dog, Teedie. Outside of work, you’ll find her trail running with Teedie, spending time in Petoskey, or supporting the veteran community alongside her husband.
