Mothers are often the sole breadwinner in families with children; low wages increase the risk of poverty in these households. For older women a lifetime of low wages leads to financial insecurity in later life."
"The gender pay gap continues to be a systemic form of discrimination in our labor market. Overall women are paid 82 cents for every dollar a man earns; and when we look across race or motherhood status, for example, that disparity is even greater. The COVID -19 pandemic further exacerbates this inequity. Strong policy is needed to close loopholes and ensure equity in pay for all women."
