About Karina
Shklyan's research focuses on how cities in the United States provide services and benefits to immigrant communities, and whether such provisions translate into positive integration outcomes for immigrants. Overarching themes in Shklyan's writings include local contexts of reception, immigrant integration, immigration federalism, and ethnic return migration. Shklyan is a graduate fellow with the Yankelovich Center for Social Science Research and volunteers for Alliance San Diego. She is also a consultant for the Welcoming San Diego initiative.
