New Jersey OpEd Writing/Media Workshop
The New Jersey - Philadelphia SSN Chapter, together with the SSN national office, are pleased to provide a free OpEd Writing/Media Workshop. This event is open to faculty, administrators, researchers, and graduate students. Participants should come prepared with an idea for an OpEd in mind and will be guided through shaping this idea into their next media opportunity.
This workshop is a hands-on training for scholars who want to learn how to write and pitch compelling, research-based OpEds. Participants will learn how to craft a good lede, identify and incorporate timely news hooks, signal the author’s unique and relevant expertise, increase the likelihood of publication, and structure an OpEd for maximum impact. We'll also discuss some concrete tips for responding to media requests, preparing for radio/tv interviews, and maintaining journalist relationships. The workshop is great for all scholars, whether you've written OpEds before or are just starting to think about getting involved in media work.
Lunch will be served from 12:30-1:00pm. The training will run from 1:00-3:00pm.
